Our skilled team is here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring your child can enjoy a safe, healthy, and happy life.
Below, you’ll find all the details about referrals, booking, and getting ready for your appointment. If you have any questions, our friendly team is always available to assist.

Do You Need a Referral?
A referral is required to see our Immunologists.
While no referral is needed to see our GP Allergists or Dietitian, correspondence from your usual GP helps keep everyone in your healthcare team informed, ensuring the best possible care.
How Can You Book an Appointment?
Appointments can be conveniently booked through our online portal. Alternatively, you can call 07 3394 9500, but please note that the phone lines experience high levels of activity.
Before your appointment
If skin prick testing (usually required) may be performed, please avoid antihistamines (or any medication containing antihistamines) for at least five days prior to your appointment.
Please continue to use inhalers and any other prescribed medication as normal.
For additional guidance, please review our Top Tips for Your Visit.
What Should You Bring to Your Appointment?
To ensure a thorough assessment, please bring the following:
-
Clinic letters or previous allergy test results related to your child’s condition.
-
Your baby's health record book.
-
A list of ingredients if your child has had a food-related allergic reaction. If the reaction occurred in a restaurant or catering setting, we recommend contacting them for a full ingredient list.
-
If a rare allergen (e.g., fresh fish, fruit, vegetables, or legumes) requires testing, please bring a sample, as these may not be available on-site for skin prick testing.
Do you perform skin prick testing for food allergies on babies?
Skin prick testing is only useful when there’s a history of an IgE-mediated (immediate-type) food allergy and the child is old enough to eat solids. We don’t perform this test on babies who haven’t started solids yet. It requires careful and thorough history-taking beforehand, and only clinically relevant items should be tested.
What Happens on the Day of Your Appointment?
Please arrive 10 minutes early so the clinic staff can confirm your details.
During your clinical consultation, we will take a detailed history, examine your child, perform skin prick testing if needed, and provide personalized recommendations and follow-up care.
Initial consultations typically last 45-60 minutes, while review consultations are usually 30-45 minutes.
If necessary, we can arrange oral food challenges, drug challenges, immunotherapy, or other ongoing investigations and treatments. High-risk procedures will be conducted at our Greenslopes clinic, while low-risk procedures may take place at Grange.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you want during your consultation. If you have additional concerns, we’ll address them at your follow-up appointment.
We look forward to helping you and your child on the path to better health!
